There’s been some exciting announcements made in Plymouth and the wider South West recently which will drive innovation and growth in sectors that align with the offshore and subsea sectors, so we wanted to take a closer look at what these may mean for Pioneer Subsea (our HQ is in Plymouth) and our existing, and future, clients and contractors.
A major recent highlight has been the launch of ‘Team Plymouth’, a collaboration between Plymouth City Council, Babcock and the Ministry of Defence, that will drive defence and marine innovation and opportunities. Team Plymouth firmly establishes Plymouth as a key UK hub for defence, attracting investment, talent, and ground-breaking projects, and signals an exciting future for the region and for the companies that call it home, including us here at Pioneer Subsea.
Earlier in the summer, the Government declared Plymouth as the National Centre for Marine Autonomy, recognising the importance of the start-up and established marine autonomous businesses, services and facilities located and operating in the city but that which have international reach and scope in the offshore, subsea, marine and defence innovation sectors. The growth of automation and AI is already opening up new roles that require advanced skills.
At Pioneer Subsea we’re also keeping our ear to the ground on developments in Floating Offshore Wind especially within the Celtic Sea – the South West and Wales region could fast become a key hotspot in the development of sustainable energy solutions, creating a host of new roles and long-term career paths, on and offshore.
As offshore professionals ourselves, we excited about these developments; the skills learnt and developed in an offshore environment – resilience, technical proficiency, problem-solving, and safety focus – are highly transferable to the expanding roles in marine autonomy, clean energy, and defence innovation.
The future of offshore, subsea and marine autonomy is coming and it will be right here on our doorstep. We look forward to supporting the wide variety of opportunities these industries are currently, and will in the future, offer.
